How to cancel a chat subscription and check that renewal has stopped

Find who actually bills the subscription, cancel through that provider and keep the confirmation showing when renewal ends. Deleting an app, logging out or spending a token balance is not a substitute for checking a recurring payment. Refunds and account deletion are separate requests.

Identify the seller before looking for a cancel button

Start with the receipt or subscription confirmation. Find the merchant or billing provider, the account email, the amount and the billing interval. A service used on an iPhone may have been purchased through Apple, directly on a website or through another provider. The device you use does not identify the seller.

Check whether the charge is actually a subscription. A one-off credit pack, an automatic top-up triggered by a low balance and a fixed recurring membership are different arrangements. Each may have a different control. If the wording is unclear, ask the billing provider which future charges are enabled on the account.

For an unfamiliar card entry, compare the date and amount with your receipts. Do not post your full card number or a complete statement in a public support discussion. If you cannot identify the charge, contact the card issuer through its official channel for help establishing what it represents.

Follow the provider that took the payment

Google Play subscriptionGoogle Play subscriptionsThe Google Account used for the purchase

Use the official Apple cancellation guide or Google Play guide for those billing routes. Google explicitly notes that uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription.

Keep proof that renewal was stopped

After using the correct cancellation route, inspect the resulting status. Look for the membership or renewal named in the confirmation and any displayed end date. Save the confirmation or reference. A message saying that a request was received may not be the same as a status showing renewal disabled.

Check other future-charge settings separately. Cancelling a membership may not explain whether automatic credit top-ups remain enabled. Conversely, switching off a top-up setting does not necessarily cancel an unrelated subscription. Ask the provider about the specific arrangement shown on your receipt.

Keep access long enough to retrieve the necessary records before deleting the account, where the service allows that. Account deletion, app removal, renewal cancellation and refund requests are distinct actions. Do not rely on one to perform the others unless the provider explicitly documents that behaviour.

Handle missing plans and failed controls

If the plan is not listed, check whether you used another account or purchased directly on the website. If cancellation produces an error, record it and contact official support with the plan and receipt reference. Do not send a password or a full card number in a support message.

For US consumers, FTC guidance recommends keeping cancellation records and checking subsequent charges. If the provider keeps charging, discuss the available dispute process with your payment provider. This is not a guarantee of a refund or a universal deadline.

If a charge appears after cancellation

Compare the transaction date, billing period and confirmation time before deciding what happened. A charge can require clarification even when the amount matches an earlier payment. Ask the provider to identify the billed period and explain it against your cancellation record.

Send a concise message: the account identifier, subscription name, cancellation date, confirmation reference and disputed transaction. State whether you are asking to stop future charges, investigate a charge or request a refund. Those are different outcomes, and naming the one you need makes the request easier to handle.

If the response does not resolve an unauthorised or disputed charge, use the official route offered by your payment provider and the relevant consumer guidance for your location. The FTC resource is a US reference. This guide does not promise a refund or replace the terms and procedures applicable to a specific transaction.

When support answers only part of your request

Suppose you asked to stop renewal and investigate a previous payment, but the reply discusses only the refund. Respond with the unresolved action: “Thank you. Please also confirm whether renewal for this named plan is disabled and state its end date.” Keep both requests attached to the relevant receipt so that a favourable answer about one does not hide an unanswered question about the other.

Treat deletion and refunds as separate decisions

Cancelling renewal concerns future billing. A refund concerns a past payment. Account deletion concerns access and retained data. Check each separately and keep needed records before closing the account. Unused tokens may have their own rules.

English-language services can bill in different currencies and operate under different terms. Use the receipt’s currency and actual provider, not the menu language, to identify the transaction. See billing privacy for statement questions, or the scam-response guide if the charge follows deception or a threat.
